You’ve just purchased a brand new 70” LED TV and you want to make your investment lasts. The truth is there are a number of things that can go wrong and cause your TV to have a shorter lifespan. Whether it’s the location you choose or how you clean the TV, you need to take special care to ensure the TV lasts as long as possible. The following are just a few LED TV care tips that will help your TV last for years to come.
Place in a Controlled Environment
Where you keep your TV is extremely important. You want to place the TV in an area that is temperature controlled and low in humidity. Temperatures that are too high or too low can damage the television. Humidity can also cause corrosion within the television, leading to malfunctions. You should also avoid taking the TV from low to high temperatures, which can cause condensation within the television.
Keep the Area Dusted
Dust is the enemy of all electronics. When dust particles are allowed to build up within the television a short can occur, which will cause the television to malfunction. Make sure to keep the room the TV is stored in dusted regularly. It also helps to install a filter in your central heating and air unit that will help filter dust particles from the air. When dusting the TV itself, never spray with cleaners and avoid cloths that could cause a static shock.
Avoid Spraying With Liquid Cleaners
The TV should never be directly sprayed with cleaner. A build up of liquid inside the television could cause the TV to malfunction. You can use a static-free cloth to rub IPA or Hexane on the dirty surface, but NEVER use Ethyl or Methyl chloride as this can damage the TV. If you’re worried about the amount of liquid, there is another option that is much easier.
Use Cleaning Wipes
In any electronics store, you will find what are called electronic wipes or computer wipes. These wipes are perfect for cleaning electronics, especially LED TVs. They come in small wipes the size of alcohol pads or larger wipes that are similar in size to baby wipes. The wipes are simple to use. Make sure the TV is turned off and unplugged before cleaning. Then just wipe down the surface of the television with the wipe and allow to dry.
Never Pause for Too Long
DVRs have given us the ability to pause live TV, but this can be harmful to your television. Pausing the TV for too long can cause the image to become burned into the screen. Once this happens, you’ll have a ghost of the image on the TV no matter what you’re watching. If you’re going to pause your DVR for a long period, turn off the TV, but leave your DVR on. This allows you to pick up where you left off without damaging your TV screen.
LED TVs provide a great picture, but that picture will only last if you take care of the TV. The good news is this isn’t hard to do. A gentle wipe every now and then and storing the TV in the right area will keep your TV looking like new for years to come.
